After the coach requesting a better performance from the team he was delighted to win a tough encounter 2-0 over Hamilton Wanderers.
The team started the game really positively and created the first of many chances in the 3rd minute when Julyan Collett smashed a header onto the crossbar from a dangerous Dan Morgan delivery. That set the tempo of the first half and apart from a couple of corner’s Pirmin Strasser in goal was largely untroubled.
In comparison to the week before the work and success rate of the midfielder was dominating Hamilton Wanderers who had to defend strongly. Waitakere United legend Aaron Scott was the bedrock of the Wanderers defence and did what he has done for many year for us and ensured it was still 0-0 at half-time.
Wanderers really changed their tempo and movement in the second half and were the better side for the first 15 minutes. The team were being harried and chased and started to give away needless freekicks that enabled Wanderers to maintain their momentum. In the 63rd minute against all the pressure Jake Butler broke clear on the right and delivered a perfect cross that eluded everyone attacking the goal. Dan Morgan was able to regather and then hit a strong right-footed shot under the despairing dive of the keeper to take the lead.
From there we controlled the game and in the 93rd minute Jake Butler was put through one on one with the keeper and scored the second goal.
